This is actually a KEY flower in terms of being the first to bloom in spring. It is key for the reason that it is FOOD for BEES. We are all aware I am sure, by now, that Bees are endangered.
In part due to pesticides, the enemy insects and other contaminants and elements we are not yet aware of.
So it is CRTICAL, that we do everything in our power to ensure the survival of Bees.
Simply put, if Bees die, We die.
But there is all the hope, there is everything you can do!
The TAKE AWAY I would love for you all to be is please do not mow your Dandelions, it IS the primary food source for bees who are coming out of Hibernation. They MUST eat.
And do NOT spray your lawns, this ails and helps to kills Bees and all other beneficial insects: Ladybugs and so on. Ladybugs love to feast on Aphids!
Love your lawn. Love your Bees. Respect the role your Dandelions play in the cycle of life.
P.S. Did you know that Dandelion leaves are a very beneficial bitter green? Please look it up. It's also a food for YOU. Bonus!
