I Love Autumn

Yesterday I had lunch at an outdoor table in the park with Catherine. We wrapped up well and had pumpkin soup and grilled cheese. Catherine managed to capture a kite that had escaped a group of younger girls. So we flew kites for a bit with them looked for conkers for my nephew. The weather was beautiful. Cold, crisp, dry and bright. I love this time of the year so much.

Especially the lovely feeling of arriving home after a long walk and just feeling the warmth spreading throughout you. All the colours, the wind at your back, the foggy nights. Everything seems so calm, so still, and yet remains vibrant. It really is a lovely time of the year.

Yes, horse chestnuts.

Children thread strings through them and play a game where you have to crack your opponent's conker.

I think it's played in most of northern Europe - I live in the UK.
