Aw now I miss raising babies. Are they under it now?
But I would be terrified of a fire with that heat lamp so close to the hay and nothing between them. Many fires have happened in chicken coops due to this. 🫣

@Magenta
No babies in the yet, this was a trial run to make sure the temp was right for when I do get the babies.

I have a temperature gun. And I make sure nothing reaches over 100°. The hottest temp, which is directly under the light is 98° well below the combustion temp of hay. And both heat lamps are SECURED so they can't fall.

As long as theres no drafts, they should hudfle under that light comfortably. I think the ceramic heater would cause too much air movement.
How cold is it outside?

@LunarOrbit directly in the light it's staying ~95° on one side but on the other half of the 4x4 ft area was still down in the 50s. I haven't had problems with the ceramic heater creating drafts before but I'll be on the look out. Right now it's in the low 40s during the day and freezing at night.

@cheyster Yes…better safe than sorry. I raised a few chickens just as a hobby/novelty and the arrival of new chicks was always the most rewarding. Enjoy :)

@LunarOrbit yes this isn't my first rodeo with babies. I currently have a flock of 23.

Thank you 😊
