Okay, Update on the new Ginseng garden going in

It's going to be about just shy of 8 acres, took us this long to get this far with only two people working. It just me and my Partner working

I last left you guys when we got hit the mild tornado and it ripped apart the gardens. You guys remember that.

This year we are using all use post to save on money. So we have to dip and soak them formaldehyde type solution. Not a fun job, had to do this to 3000-4000 post.

Then we drag the field to removed rocks and more rocks and more rocks

The next thing we did was take old post and make anchors out them and wrapped them with 1/4 inch steel cable.

Then went out into the field the old fashion way with tape measures and squared up the garden, believe it or not that's a pain in the ass on a windy day in the mud. We had wait for the sulfur fumigation company to come out and treat the field. (At about $800.00 USA an acre and we are planting almost 8 acres)

Then we after a week, we can go back into the field and that when can mark out the where to put the post. Then we pound the post into the gound

Now here is the part where at today

We dug holes with a backhoe. Then put then put them anchors we made earlier this spring. Now it's time to put them into the holes we just dug and bury them but to make sure we leave the cable sticking out

That the anchors we made on the motorize hay wagon.

Then we take that anchor cable that is sticking out of the ground and attached it to the hardware thats in the post. Like shown in photos

That is so much work. How long does it take you to get to get to the point in that first picture before the tornado ripped everything apart?

I have so much respect for farmers. Thank you for doing what you do.

That first pictures, that them are 1, 2 and 3 years olds

It will take 1 full year before you see any plants growing. So what we're doing now, will not see see life till next spring.

Like we still have to make the raised beds, plant seeds, cut the oats for straw and seed, bale the straw from the oats, shred the straw over the ginseng, hang that black fabric like you see in the 1st photo.

And that just for this new garden.

Old gardens we have weeders, come in and weed, harvest the seed, take down the 3 year old garden if we harvest it this year

@HumanEarth we don’t grow in here in Manitoba. This is a list of what’s grown here.

I plan on growing some echinacea and phase into that as a retirement crop, if I can ever find enough seed to get to make it worth my time
HumanEarth · F
80% less labor to grow it

@HumanEarth I hope you can find some

But for right now, I'm going to sit back and drink my coffee for the next 40 minutes and listen to the frogs and chickens outside and relax
