About To Move To Kansas, Should I Be Concerned?

I am leaving South Dakota for first time, for Kansas to live and work on a farm. I have heard horrid stories about Kansas being so damn dull that it makes you go blind but I need good job and I have one with family down there that owns a farm. What would you do? When you only work a small part time job and need something better? Thanks.

Where at in Kansas? It's cold, lots of deer and pheasants鈥攎ostly Ag and ranching (cattle). We have sold a lot of hay up in that area because of recent weather disasters causing food shortages for stranded cattle. We are contracted out again this year. We will likely have 4 cuttings again. We also planted millet and sorghum and we have baled a lot of green wheat. A big feedlot in Texas on flat earth flooded out from heavy rains and they needed feed fast. We sold all we had (except what we kept for our own stock). The point is its busy work, outside in the clean cold or hot air. My farmer makes very good money. Women there like clean-cut men that work hard, and if you clean up well and act like a civilized and caring man...they will run you ragged. You can also catch side work with hunting outfitters during deer season for extra money. 馃槈

@TexChik Thanks sweetheart. My family lives near Russell, Kansas. It is boring and flat as it gets. I am just now learning about farming though and don't know what you are talking about yet, except the hay part.

@ChadJNSD You are about to get a crash course I suspect. Plowing, planting, fertilizing, irrigation, plus knowing how to fix stuff and weld. My farmer is younger and has a wife and a young daughter. He is into tons of side work, he is a great carpenter and does amazing and ornate trim and furniture. His wife is a CPA . We use her for farm stuff and she has her other clients too. Flat is flat, canyons, and draws are the new land features.

@ChadJNSD Harvest happens soon if they are growing wheat. Get some dust masks!
