A good day out!

The mobile-pianist's combination of Victoriana and 21C telecommunications, amuses me! The "art" on on the end of the instrument would have shocked the sensibilities of even the Impressionists.

The nearest agricultural show to me would be Dorchester's (the County show), but I've never been to it.

THE big forthcoming attraction even further East, although not an agricultural show, is the Great Dorset Steam Fair. I used to attend it on its original site but have never been to its Tarrant Hinton site. Not through lack of interest. Far from it!. I find an event on that scale, and on hard, rough recently-harvested arable land, physically and mentally too much now, so prefer such events on the scale of that Umberleigh agricultural show.

Is the Umberleigh Railway Station* building actually used? It looks a bit sorry for itself. Some of the stations on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line have become private homes, and one or two others are rented as business-premises with a public waiting-room still available. They are all looked after by the Railway's "Friends" group and Network Rail; conserving their original external design and paint schemes; LMSR in that region. I know this from having used the line several times over the years.

*(I refuse to use the Americanism, "train station"!)

@ArishMell Umberleigh is a a request stop on the Exeter to Barnstaple line .
The busiest day is when the Show is held , just a mile away .
Gt Dorset is too big ,Melplash Show is a good event , at Bridport.

@devonman I guessed it is now an unstaffed halt. At least it is still available for use! There three such between Yeovil and Dorchester.

I am not a farmer so would not be so interested in agricultural shows as such, but am interested in old machinery including that for agriculture.

As far as the scale of events go, I have found even major indoor exhibitions a strain. I enjoy attending - and usually spend more money than I ought - but after about four hours or so start forgetting what I have seen. It depends a lot on the nature of the venue. One that has plenty of room outside for a rest and fresh air (useful these days..) makes it much easier to cope with.

I’ve never been at an agricultural show although I grew up in a village. There were non in our neck of the woods but I were at a antique tractor show in a village nearby.
