A valentine from nature

Mowing the lawn just now I found this feather in the grass. How I saw it I don't know because it's so tiny. It has a perfect heart on it.

After looking it up I found it's from a Northern Flicker. This is strange because I don't ever remember seeing one around here.

Googling Flicker folklore brought me this:

Symbol of Affection: Because of these natural markings, finding a "heart-spotted" flicker feather is viewed in modern lore and nature observation as a gentle token of love or a "valentine" from the wild

It's a gift. I'm keeping it.

Now back to mowing the lawn.
