The Forest
Upon the softest petals
Of a flower full in bloom
The honeybee dances free
Collecting all its due
And butterflies are free to fly
But instead they land there too
Collecting what they came for
Beneath the sky of blue
And along the lazy river
Above that languid water
The water bugs are tracing out
The paths they think they aughta
Beneath the glassy surface
That reflects the shy above
The rainbow trout has no doubt
That the water bugs his dinner
And there behind the branches
A doe stares back at me
A morning dove flies overhead
And made me think of love
An owl in the distance
Sends out an early morning cry
And I find it easy to assume
That it’s just saying Hi
I just wander through their space
I try hard not to be
Anything those creatures fear
Yet they all still flee from me
Sometimes I find myself wishing
Upon the great blue heron’s wings
That flew away as I came close
As a sparrow starts to sing
Inside of the forest
That sits behind my house
I walk and take in nature
Wishing I could be a cloud
But I am just a man inside
Of a forest so Devine
And all I can do is walk on through
And try to clear my mind
Of a flower full in bloom
The honeybee dances free
Collecting all its due
And butterflies are free to fly
But instead they land there too
Collecting what they came for
Beneath the sky of blue
And along the lazy river
Above that languid water
The water bugs are tracing out
The paths they think they aughta
Beneath the glassy surface
That reflects the shy above
The rainbow trout has no doubt

And there behind the branches
