Inconsiderate Equestrians

I've just seen a couple of horse riders on a main road, riding two abreast, making it impossible for any of the 20 or so cars behind to get past safely. I could hear them screaming at vehicles coming the other way to "slow down" (although they were already at little more than walking pace) and "give us more room [various expletives]". There was a wide grass verge they could easily have waited on while the queue of vehicles behind them went past but that didn't seem to occur to them, or they were just enjoying being a nuisance.

They have as much right to be there as you.

@FreddieUK Most are polite and considerate but there exceptions anywhere.

@SWGhost Not in the States. Most states require single file and pull over if impeding traffic flow.

Well, Open Range areas might mean stuck behind a herd of critters...

😏
@Neoerectus So much for land of the free.

I understand your frustration but I once saw a young woman get killed when her horse bolted into traffic. These days I give them a wide berth and rarely overtake them.

@Regfries A good rider will often pull in and let you pass; but horses are desperately unsafe animals. A friend who used to own two, told me they can panic at something like a plastic bag fluttering in a hedge, or even by a change to some familiar, static roadside feature.

@ArishMell I would rather sit well behind them and let them walk at their own pace. A spooked horse is an incredibly dangerous animal.
