I Live Adjacent to the State Forest

Archery Minds
by: Rob Paquin

And as I walk through these woods
Staring at these trees
I take time to feel the forest
Who’s air I softly breathe

I wander down the paths here
As trodden as they are
Searching for the fauna
Inside the flora that’s been scarred

I try to tread so lightly
Yet my footsteps fall in wonder
Awaiting the wash of Springtime rains
That bring with them, The Thunder

Stop to see the simple things
The spider’s web. The swelling spring.
Taking notice of it all
Even the small things

The leaf that fell beside me
The flower there about to bloom
The silence of the day I’m in
The rising sun, the falling moon

I sit and let the breeze blow by
I feel it on my face
As I stare out at the riverbed
Inside this state of grace

I see the twig that floats on by
I see the minnows as they swim
I take a deeper set of breaths
And feel the sunlight on my skin

I hear the songbirds and the crow
As an eagle passes across the sky
I taste the pine scent in the air
And wish that I could fly

And everything seems simple there
At the edge of the running river
I wish that a rock; I could be
Instead of an arrow inside life’s quiver.
