A few words about exploring...
Today I came across some videos about places that I have been to. Some decades ago in the 1970s. Some only a couple of decades ago.
What I noticed in many of these videos is a total disregard not only for nature, yet as well a total disregard for the people that have lived there.
The first set of videos was about a very well known series of waterfalls among hikers. If you're not a hiker, however, you are not likely to know about Massacre canyon near what was once called Gilman Hot Springs CA.
I hope to be making some posts about Massacre canyon as well as the story behind the name. I would, however, like to mention that I am in correspondence with Californias native Americans regarding this story.
What upsets me the most over this canyon, however, is the obvious destruction of just the natural area over the decades.
Yes, it was a huge problem even in the 1970s. Jerks were using it as a unofficial gun shooting range back then. Before that the canyon was used as a salt mine, which I can point out when I post on this subject. Yet it's far far worse now. Graffiti is everywhere . Paths and firebreaks are abused. And I noticed even the first fall has been affected. It has been worn to the point that it's lost it's historical significance.
Please, people please don't do such destructive behavior. A natural 20 foot wall for a waterfall doesn't become a stairway even over 40 years! I had to literally climb using footholds and hands up that 20 foot wall! No stairway was there at all!
Doing that has made it lose it's historical significance. A whole Indian tribe was massacred because of that natural stone wall!
Yet this is only the start of what I noticed.
Some idiot fool decided to invade Soboba tribal Indian grounds, calling the video by two inaccurate city names. In the video he pointed out the buildings involved were not up to California building code. Goes on to notice gun shot in the walls! Yet still has no clue as to where he is!
So the next video he does the same again! Calling it a "resort" area! 😡
I lived on that reservation in 1991-2. The video was not the resort at all. One scene was of their sacred smoke house! Not even I was allowed there unaccompanied and I lived there on the reservation.
The fool was lucky to have not been shot not only once but twice!
Have some respect people! Observe at minimum where you are! Don't assume that you can go anywhere to begin with!
Yet as well respect the environment!
End of rant!
This really didn't help much! I'm still outraged! 😡
Added edit.
The following two images were taken at the second falls back in 1977 by myself and developed by myself!
I finally found these two images after decades.
