He'd just come out of nowhere. Right by our back door. The blackbird was still struggling for the few moments before he went off with it in his talons into the oak tree.
A few years ago one had a pigeon in our garden. Last year he took a pigeon down but it got away.
There is an oak tree in our garden and two others about 100m away. I think he trains his eye between the trees and takes birds as they set off not having seen him up high.
