“Ominous” clouds late in the afternoon followed by gusting winds and a pretty decent downpour. But the clouds do deserve our attention when they’re like this. Could be more than wind and rain.![]()

That looks like a lot of very severe turbulance and I'm rather surprised, from your description, that it did not develop into a thunderstorm.
I saw something similar recently in the base of a thunderstorm that brushed past our area, although it was not an especially powerful one.
