Do You Know?

During World War I, dogs were trained and used by both sides to locate wounded men in no-man's-land. These dogs would carry medical supplies or, if the soldier was too severely injured to move, they would return with a piece of the soldier's uniform or helmet to lead medics back to the location.

I did not know that. Do you know if the dogs were granted passage as medics and not shot at?
