Americans usually refer to people from outside the USA as "aliens", not foreigners.

Usually people who live in Great Britain refer to anyone outside the UK as "foreigners", even if those foreigners come from a British Commonwealth country. Americans don't typically refer to people who live outside the USA as foreigners unless those Americans were originally from Britain.

Americans use the term "alien" when referring to a non-American and it's always been that way in the USA. If you say "foreigner", then you are probably someone who immigrated to the United States from another country and became a US citizen after starting out as a Landed Immigrant.

An outdated word to be specific. Nobody says alien anymore. Not even when referring to illegal aliens. People just say “illegals”

@DeluxedEdition I gladly use the word alien. It is someone that is where they are not supposed to be. Not a visitor, not an immigrant, not a guest worker.
