@FreeSpirit1 The three, almost four, years I was on it I only bought what was on sale, and even then $192 a month didn't stretch far.

@NativePortlander1970 for everyone like you there are five scammers who abuse it.
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@FreeSpirit1 Wrong, a study done in the 90's showed that less than one percent were found abusing it.

@NativePortlander1970 It’s 2025
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@FreeSpirit1 I seriously doubt the demographics have changed any.

@FreeSpirit1 well I guess if you don’t mean to stereotype it’s ok.
Growing up I was on food stamps. We weren’t all “well fed”. Not sure where it’s like in your area, but most EBT users now seem embarrassed rather than gaming the system.

@BillyMack It should be, and should be temporarily. Some people try to make it a way of life. I recently saw a clip of an Iraqi import claiming that without food assistance he would have to move his family back to Iraq. Geez. If he can't become a productive member of society he should go back home.

@IronHamster I agree on it’s a means to an end, rather than a way of life.
My issue comes from blanket generalizations and spewing random statistics without actual attribution.

@BillyMack I understand circumstances are different. I have seen special ed kids that express contempt at learning because they will always get an SSI payment. I have seen people abuse the EBT system. I have also seen a fairly wealthy women who was divorced with kids whom the local school, without her input or consent, signed her up for the EBT program. You know, I might take advantage of it too in that case for all I pay in. Last year my tax dollars supported four single women with rug rats I sure didn't conceive, and not one of them even sent me a Christmas card.

@IronHamster sounds personal to you man.
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@IronHamster So in other words, starving children give you stiffies watching them going to bed hungry every night, gotcha.
