Where did we go???

What amounts to martial law in DC... I am by no means the liberal I once was, but there has to be an in-between somewhere. I cannot take the mad dog mentality of extremists of either kind. Then again, when I saw the released footage of what happened in Uvalde, it did give me pause. So what is the solution, besides prayer, which I do! Also, I am taking a chance on making this post because some of the political discussions here can be a bit intimidating to me. I love my country, always have, but the way things are going, I just don't know anymore.

Trump is preparing us for the time when he starts sending troops to other cities, to "restore order." He already has done it to LA.
@JoyfulSilence With good reason .. just saying ..

Crime is down. There is no crisis. He just needed a distraction. It is all theater.

@JoyfulSilence What do you call rioting over legal deportation actions?

I'm not happy to see the guard called out .. but rather that than more of the BLM type riots that were openly encouraged by Waters, AOC, and others. The same thing was starting in CA over ICE detentions /deportations and starting to turn against ICE agents.

Again, not wild about it in DC either .. but same concerns with democrat oversight not being effective against crime.

I say let the people in. Who else is going to do all that work? As for people "stealing" jobs, let the best man win. Why should established residents get special treatment? As for overtaxing society, make sure taxes are high enough to cover it all. Eventually the new folks build wealth, too.
@JoyfulSilence Let in an amount of people we plan and budget for .. like the rest of the world controls their borders ? Sure. Wide open border and 10-20x what we saw historically / can hope to pay for with no vetting, no oversight? No .. absolute lunacy.

I pay enough in taxes and the vast majority will purse social support at some level and over years and years We have more debt and people on social support than we can manage now.

It is OK if people from another state come to mine for work and to live, and vice versa. Why not other countries?

As long as there is an even playing field, of course. Similar rights, conditions, no tariffs or trade barriers, similar labor, commerce, and environmental laws, democracy, rule of law, etc.

Where there are imbalances and issues, have restrictions until remedied.

I mostly just hate the xenophobia and hatred. People are people. As long as they are not criminals or terrorists, and leave their religion in their private life and do not try to force it on me. Of course, a lot of this danger is home grown. I think we should outlaw churches, dark money, and greed before we block some poor guy from Mexico who just wants a job.

But they should try and learn the language. I am at McDonald's now and had a hard time understanding the cashier. Of course, nowadays they prefer we use the kiosk. All they do now is deal with the drive thru, and the dine in folks have to wait for a human to notice we are here and come from the back to serve them. Corporations suck.
