Yes,the New Zealand rugby team was originally called that because their team outfit is "all black" - black jerseys,matching black shorts and socks.The name was coined many years ago when those team colours were first introduced,,and the name has stuck as shorthand for the name of the team rather than just the team colours.

Omg!! 🤣🤣🤣 I learned about the All Blacks the exact same way back on EP and I was horrified at first! I had never heard of them prior -- being an American, like you, we don't often hear about such obscure things as Rugby! 🤣

We're (England) playing the All Blacks on 2nd November. A victory would be superb result after the summer matches.
