What’s the main cause of death for all these native children in Canada?

Mandatory government residential schools for Native children in Canada started in 1920 and were mostly phased out by 1969. Hundreds of unmarked graves have been recently discovered and news reports suggest tuberculosis as the major cause of death. But Canada started administering a vaccine for that in 1921.

So is it another cause?

It is impossible to speculate given the times. We have no idea when the child died and when you think about it back in the day lots of children died prematurely. I went to a small school in rural Canada. Of the 60 kids that started grade 1 with me 3 were dead before they graduated grade 12. Not trying to trivialize the deaths or shift blame or excuse behaviors. Just observing the facts.
