It is impossible to speculate given the times. We have no idea when the child died and when you think about it back in the day lots of children died prematurely. I went to a small school in rural Canada. Of the 60 kids that started grade 1 with me 3 were dead before they graduated grade 12. Not trying to trivialize the deaths or shift blame or excuse behaviors. Just observing the facts.
