Why is a voter ID an issue

Serious question. Why is a voter ID of some sort an issue? I need an ID to board a plane. An ID is required to drive a car, buy beer, leave the country, open a bank account, etc.

I am not supportive of voter suppression. But I do want honest voting without fraudulent voters.

Why would a free voter ID be discriminating! They are free! You have to have an ID to by alcohol or cigarettes to get a married, to get on a plane,why not to vote?
