I Am American

I am the granddaughter of 2 WW2 vets, a daughter of a Vietnam vet, ex-wife of an Army vet, and the mother of an Army soldier. I was raised to respect those in uniform, and stand for the flag. I am teacher who starts every school day off with the Pledge of Allegiance, just as I had done in school. Yes it is your right to not stand for the National Anthem. Please be mindful you are not only disrespecting the American Flag, but those who have fought for freedom and your right to have an opinion.

I also am the child and grandchild of military veterans, descended from those going back to the Civil War. My father served in the Korean conflict, the first without segregated troops. In WWI, when his father served, black men were considered good enough to die for our country, yet not good enough to serve, live, work, go to school or even eat in the same places as other citizens. I asked my father how he felt about about the athletes' silent protest. He said he understood that it is against racism, not the military and he had fought to preserve our Constitution---the same one that's allowing white supremacists to march in our city. So no one who is against racism should object to what these athletes are doing.

@bijouxbroussard there is no place in this world for racism in my opinion! We're all humans and equal in every way ! I have good African American friends too ! I do understand there struggle too . And everyone has the right to there first amendment! All I'm saying is why do it during the anthem? Stand for the song then kneel together briefly after !
@Bustoff77 They do it because that is what they need to do. And they kneel rather than sit. That was a concession out of respect, that their critics don't even acknowledge.

@Bustoff77 because there is so much resistance to change with respect to racism in this country.

@bijouxbroussard they need to ? Tell that to the people with missing legs arms and family members that are dead and can't kneel ! They don't need to do anything while the anthem is playing! that's what I call respect! Like I said do it either before or after the song !
@Bustoff77 Then you don't understand. They sacrificed to preserve the Constitution, including the First Amendment that allows such peaceful protests. Without that Constitution the flag would mean nothing.

@Tastyfrzz I agree 100 percent! And they should do something! All I'm saying don't hurt another group like veterans buy doing it . But yes I agree !
@Bustoff77 It's not hurting veterans. No one is burning the flag or interfering with the anthem. It's a silent, peaceful protest about something that shouldn't even still be an issue, over 50 years after the Civil Rights movement.

@bijouxbroussard we'll see after NFL ratings drop ! Then when the dollar is involved we'll see what the league does ! Again I agree with your point ! 🙂
@Bustoff77 If it does, I'll just chalk it up to the continued racism that is a part of our country again with this administration.
