I Am American

I've been hearing more about this confederate monument in Virginia and claims that taking it down will remove part of history. I disagree. Taking down some statue is not going to remove anything.

Those statues are a reminder of the past, good or bad. Anyone that says they are bothered by a statue I think has bigger issues than they are aware of. Taking them down is not going to solve anything. To me, they serve as a reminder of the past, and if the past is not remembered, then it will be repeated, and there are things from the past of this country that should not be repeated.
@minarth008 Then the statue should have a plaque at the base explaining that it was erected by racists 60 years after the Civil War ended, for no reason other than to intimidate the black population. Making believe that it's a legitimate Civil War memorial only perpetuates the error.
