I Am American

I've been hearing more about this confederate monument in Virginia and claims that taking it down will remove part of history. I disagree. Taking down some statue is not going to remove anything.

It's not actually "history." There were no major battles in Charlottesville, and Robert E. Lee had no special connection to the area. The statue was erected in the 1920s during the Jim Crow era for no reason other than to intimidate the majority black population in the town. It's no more a "Civil War memorial" than waving a British flag in Ireland is a "Revolutionary War memorial."
