I am white. I was a career police officer. I had a very similar conversation with my son. Not a TV show but real life. Even if the cop is wrong.....we can deal with it and get it corrected later, but you can't win by confrontation or resisting on the street.
@bowman81 My brother eventually went into this line of work, and he’s not the only member of the family who has. Our parents began by having the conversation.
Sad - beyond sad. Imagine going through life knowing because of the color of you skin your freedom, even your life can be taken away from you just because you are not white.
And some say there is in our country no such a thing as white privilege.
There are several versions of that conversation. We want our children to grow up feeling safe and free, but there does come a time when we have to admit they’re not.
