There have been many discussions about the subject of "cultural appropriation”…

From the mainstream culture (in the U.S., especially) the attitude is mostly dismissive. But the subject hits differently when you come from a background where native languages, traditions, religions have been lost or banned, and have needed to be reconstructed. It tends to make people sensitive.

This is something when the outcry first began that many, including myself, didn't see, didn't realize and how could we... it hasn't happened to us. Not an excuse, just a reason.

I do think we quickly caught on and now understand the sensitivity - most of us anyway. Unfortunately, there are loud, powerful voices that don't want to get it and I don't see that changing.
