Regarding the ongoing Middle East conflict…

I saw a post by someone asking why "we" care so much about what’s going on "over there". On an international site, it’s not "over there" for everyone responding. Folks in the United States in particular seem to forget that sometimes. And aside from the fact that we should care what’s happening to other people, it’s always better to know what’s going on.

Lately, however, I have also been seeing a lot of videos from African Americans and Africans urging other blacks not to get involved in this dispute, saying basically, "we have no dog in this fight". But it’s hard not to see some parallels, especially between our recent protests and those of the Palestinians, and many in BLM do support a free Palestine (not Hamas).

In 2020 when there were worldwide protests in George Floyd’s name, many Palestinians participated
But so did several Israelis

Some white Americans have compared Hamas to BLM, which is interesting. I don’t know a lot about the origins of Hamas but I do know that BLM exists because of ongoing mistreatment from law enforcement. BLM might not exist if the popular retort "all lives matter" had been fact. BLM certainly doesn’t have a history of killing civilians, but Trump classified it as a terrorist organization just the same.

In any case, those YouTubers are urging other blacks to avoid this debate altogether not because we shouldn’t care, but because of our own unresolved struggles. Plus, sadly, many in our communities are hesitant about trusting the information we receive about the conflict.

The Israelis and Palestinians both have legitimate gripes, so it's hard to pick a side. I think that if religion could be taken out of the picture unity would become possible.
@SW-User That is a good point. Religion complicates just about every conflict.

@bijouxbroussard If you could reason with religious people there would be no religious people.
@Vin53 Sad, but true.

I think this bears repeating:

BLM might not exist if the popular retort "all lives matter" had been fact

@DrWatson 💯

There are also deep historical parallels between the experiences of Blacks and Jews. That is one of the reasons there was such deep Jewish support for the American civil rights movement.
@Harmonium1923 And before. I posted a story my father told me about how his family’s lives were saved from lynching by their Jewish neighbors.
That's very interesting I didn't notice that before. I was accused of several things by other members just for saying that I support the innocent who are caught in this sad conflict.
Unity is beautiful that is all I want to say and I know that some Palestinians and Israelis do want to be peaceful neighbors. Just like Ukrainians and Russians, Blacks and Whites we all do matter!

Its all connected. Have we not learned that by now?
@Selah It is. Mostly they’re saying it’s a distraction they don’t think we can afford. Someone mentioned Marc Lamont Hill, the CNN anchor fired for stating that he supported Palestine.

I believe everyone should get involved in not getting in involved in this situation.

It's the only way out of the situation. More people should demand to get out of this. Not just stay out of it themselves.

@Vin53 I disagree, is all must say. I have made a couple of posts on this subject. I'm not going to argue this on a friends post.

@DeWayfarer You are out of your cotton picking mind. Read my posts and think please.

Give me freedom or give me death apparently only applies among those that consider themselves the chosen. Anyone else that lives by it is considered a terrorist.
@SW-User There is truth in that, unfortunately.
Vin53 · M
@SW-User Yeah except I'm absolutely certain that freedom is the theme for most of the world today.
