Holidays 2026

My bf and I were talking about holidays. We have talked about the USA, I've never been. He has relatives there particularly in New Jersey and Boston. But one of his cousins simply texted back "Don't come to the USA currently. I wish my family had stayed in Europe". Remember this is a family that are a combination of different heritages and backgrounds and were scattered across the world by the actions of the Nazi's in Europe.

We might go to Prague. He's been a few times and his family is from there, Hungary and Poland. Two of his relatives left Prague in 1939 on the Kindertransport. I'd like to go see his heritage there as he's been to Dublin to see some of mine.

I just found out that I can't apply for the esta thing anyhow as I've a previous arrest record. So that puts the kibosh on that then.

@KatyO83 oh an international felon… interesting.
KatyO83 · 41-45, F
@Muthafukajones well the usa visa site makes it clear that even if spent you need to declare to them. Bit arrogant
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
@KatyO83 There is much that is wrong with that site.

I just had friends who came down from Canada (vancouver BC) and a visiting priest from India. It was fine, they had a great time (as much as you can in the winter in the rocky mountains). They weren't fans of Trump but they really didn't care about politics. The border control isn't Nazis, and they are not checking your social media. We love visitors, and 99% of us are very welcoming.
As long as you don't commit any heinous crimes while your here, you'll be fine.
In case you haven't seen, bashing Trump is all the rage, literally everyone on TV does it. Everyone in music does it. The guy that did the Superbowl halftime show does it. We have high school students doing it, celebrities, musicians, artists, writers. No one gets thrown in jail.
The people comparing ANYONE to Nazis are the real issue. They have no respect for history, or what actually happened to the world during world war 2. Comparing people to Nazis dehumanizes people and cheapens the evil of actual Nazis.
Honestly, Europe in the winter might be more beautiful, and would probably be higher on my list of places to visit, but there's nothing wrong with America, no matter who's president. Unless you're trying to get in illegally, then you might get sent back home.

@boudinMan I mean....I hoped people got the whole "illegal" part of that, but I kinda overestimate people sometimes. A passport is legal. A green card is legal. My husband has a friend who married a woman from the Philippines and she still lives there because they are going through the legal process of moving here even though they are married. If you come here illegally, by hoping a border fence or overstaying your visa or whatever, you are jumping the line, belittling all the work people do to try and do it the right way.
Wanna argue about the immigration process being slow? Go for it, I'm right there with you, but if you want to visit, just get a passport and you'll be good.

@Mcmarie90 it's amazing really... people have gotten so accustomed to the government not enforcing the law that when it is actually enforced, people think the law is being broken. it couldn't be more twisted, thanks to the leftist media.
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@Mcmarie90 absolutely right. my wife is mexican and she did it the right and legal way. also, when i visited mexico 20 years ago, i went thru customs with only my birth certificate to show u.s. citizenship. the customs officer told me in no uncertain terms that the next time i went to mexico, i needed to have a passport... and i did. it's called respect for the law, something dims think is optional.
If you go to the US, get a clean burner phone. They're checking social media for "anti-American", or should I say "anti-trump" postings. Even to the point of denying entry. Very sad indeed.

I am wondering about the Irish diaspora passport opportunity. Although my great-grandparents left Ireland in the 1850's.... It seems there are folks applying for a second Irish passport. Although now donald's mouthpiece(s) are disparaging people with dual citizenship.... 🙄

@VeronicaJane I have an Irish passport, courtesy of Granny bring born in Dublin. I got it as we left the EU so that I can still easily travel or work there if I need to. Unfortunately my bf is English despite his mixed European heritage he's not able to get any additional passport.

What's happening in the US is primarily affecting US residents. However, border patrol is using some of the tactics your BF's ancestry was subjected to before the Nazis either drove them out, or killed them.

Get a burner phone and stay clear of politics. I see this as a moment of insanity, but one that will take more than a generation to clean up.
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@Northwest but, it was fine and dandy when obama used the same guy (tom homan) to deport 3 million illegals, right?
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
