This is probably too complex for Americans..But...

Since its an Oxford professor who is a specialist outside my field I have dug in a couple of times and done my best to follow it. Without understanding the science I feel a rightness to it. (However as the video points out, that itself may be a flaw in me. Which is why I stick to the money) But I put it here for those who want to see. Warning.. It is a little slow...😷

The good professor is trying to make sociology/psychology 101 sound profound. 🙄

Intuition, groupism and moral foundations are what kept 90% of voters voting as they always vote. The 5 or 10% who shifted or stayed home did so for the perfectly obvious reason that the Democrats and their complicit media were so transparently and clumsily lying that it was time to throw them out and give the other liars a chance again.

@Thinkerbell At least half of what you said there is totally accurate.. Then you drift off into Bias against the democrats, which is half the story. And thats what the video is saying. As an American you come with a cultural set of values. Lets not argue right or wrong. But they are different to the values of other cultures that make up most of the worlds population and Americans need to understand that. You are in the minority..😷

It's not bias against the Democrats... I simply pointed out a psychological factor that the good professor seems to have missed, namely the "throw the incumbent rascals out" factor, if there is widespread dissatisfaction with them.

That, for example, is why mid-term elections usually move in favor of the party that doesn't occupy the presidency.

@Thinkerbell I agree that factor exists. And it words equally againdt both sides.. but it is expressed in the value already demonstrated. For example. If you are the caring sharing fairness above all type, the rascals offending those values will be what cyhanges your mind. if you are the more loyalty and steadfastness above all type. Offending those values will change your mind. Or upsetting your particular god or the freedom you value..😷

It works equally well against both sides only if the perceived offenses are equal.

In the recent election, it was unprecedented (to my knowledge) that an insider media type like Jake Tapper would write a book admitting that most of the media had tried to cover up Biden's obvious mental decline, or that a White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, would quit the party she had served for years, to write her own tell-all book, scheduled to appear in October.

I think these are objective observations, not merely confirmation bias, accounting for a good deal of what caused the 5 or 10% of voters to shift or stay home last November.

@Thinkerbell Again we agree.. I have long contended that American politics doesnt have a good side. Both are funded by the same group of very rich people with similar agendas😷

That's the old tweeledum-tweedledee critique of American politics, which has had some truth to it since WW2, at least as far as the establishments of both parties are concerned.

But Reagan and Trump upset the Republican establishment and the current left wing of the Democrats is upsetting their establishment. I think very few of establishment Democrats really want, for example, a socialist mayor in New York City, although of course billionaire George Soros will back Mamdani, but Soros is not exactly establishment.

I think the biggest problem in American politics has been the kleptocracy that has characterized it for decades. I don't think Truman or Eisenhower were crooks, but Johnson certainly was, as were far too many politicians in both parties since.

@Thinkerbell Again we agree. I wish I had a solution to fix the problem that doesnt involve a lot of hardship for a lot of people and maybe something worse.. The rich arent going to give up their position without a real struggle they can afford to pay for..😷
