The US is placing 30% tariffs on Algerian products.

1- We have been charging you more than 60%
2- Most of our exports to the US are oil related and iron and are exempt from tarrifs
3-Only your imports companies will have to keep up with the rise by skyrocketing prices. And this move will side Algeria with the Chinese market, Russian and Europe. But since it has little to no influence, Algeria won't care about the tarrifs enough to feel the urge to redirect its energy exports.

All these tarrif games he is playing are right out of his tool box. Watch over time as things change around. This is his art of the deal in practice. He's not the stupid man the left loves to paint him. He proved in his 1st administration he is anti war and while he will strike in retaliation he always wants to contain escalation. Watch over time and don't listen to his words, except perhaps for Iran, pay attention to the results of what he actually does in the long run. Rattling cages is how he works. If he were a hunter in the northern states he would look to be rattling the squirrels while he secretly has his sights on the moose.

@Gibbon The only person he cares for is himself. I don't need to watch and wait to confirm that conclusion. Not that I think Democrats are better. But let's not pretend like he is some benevolent god.

@Miram I wasn't implying that. I'm just saying he works different than the politicians and isn't predictable based on what he says. Of course his ego leads him. I have met the man in person in Atlantic City years and he gave my mother comps for free 3 day stays once a month at Trump Plaza just for having a polite conversation in the casino restaurant. Like to hear it or not he does care about things other than himself now and then. He certainly cares about the US. He had no need to run for president except life many of us he was pissed by what was happening to the country.

Are you sure Algeria charges more than 60%? Trump's Tariff rates are completely fudged based on dubious numbers that 99% of economists disagree with.

The Trump formula involves taking a country’s trade deficit with the U.S. and dividing it by the value of its exports to America, resulting in a percentage he claims represents the "tariff" imposed on the U.S. He then halves this figure to set the U.S. tariff rate.

The U.S. trade deficit with Algeria was $1.45 billion in 2024. This number is divided by Algerian exports to the U.S., which totaled $2.46 billion. 1.45 divided by 2.46 = 60%. This is the percentage the Trump administration misleadingly equated to a "tariff charged to the USA." If you split 60% in half, you get 30%.

I had no idea how much Trump thinks we are taxing the US. It was my own estimation based on bulk purchases I make for my farms from abroad. Here we define duties and tarrifs the exact same way while in your country you don't. Our tarrifs based on your own definition are 30% max on all countries products but our duties can even reach 200% depending on the category of the product, not the country sending the imports.

@Jokersswild So , jokes aside, our high rates aren't specifically targeted at the US. They are this way because the products the US exports to Algeria the most fall within the categories that are taxed the most. There are a number of reasons why this is the case here
In other words, you're suggestion that the Great and all-powerful, who can absolutely do no wrong, Dumpass Donald Trump is only hurting America by actions...

@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz It is a subset of glorification. On the lack of life's meaning, people seek out idols. He claims the intention to be more emphasis on national production and national employment, but since most of the related types of businesses are moving towards automation, it will only support monopolies of his allies. It is not about workers rights. It is indeed chess but against the average Americans' interest. That's the real opponent.

Though my partner is American, I am not sure I have an issue with that. Perhaps Americans by large need that trial.
@Miram Lest we all forget how powerful a tool nationalism is in order to exploit the severely insecure. A bunch of turkeys voting for Christmas and a future of techno-feudalism
