Where would the world be without the Sumerians and the Egyptian's both? Or even the Greeks?
Sumerians gave us our clocks and even the base 60, that any clocks uses today. So many still think that Pythagoras gave us the number "π". Yet it was the Sumerians that figured it out, with their tables using base 60, thousands of years beforehand.
The Egyptians gave us writing and paper of Papyrus, architecture and art on a massive scale. Roman canals would never exist without their architecture knowledge.
Where would we be without the Greeks?
Greek culture lead to democracy, Pythagoras's actual math and the likes of those that created the Roman culture, with Socrates, Plato (and his Republic) and Aristotle, with his aristocracy. Yet lead to the Roman's Republic. And even the aristocracy's, throughout the middle ages.
The great documents of today, like the Magna Carta or any Constitution, lay firmly on the shoulders of ALL past civilizations.
And so does everything else.
Tomorrows achievements will all as well depend on today's achievements.
A Happy New Year's thought.

@Jimbo7 I'll be specific then.
I don't even have the time, nor the desire, to give the negatives of the Roman culture any justice either.
The concept of Barbarism started within the Roman culture!
It didn't exist before the Romans. Not even with Aristotle!

@Jimbo7 well I'm not a fan of Aristotle's aristocracies nor Plato's utopian Republic either!
And both are Greek. Both were students of Socrates who was killed for arrogance against democracy.
All three despised Greek democracy.
