But if your joke is based on you being ignorant of reality, people will roast you for it.

@BohoBabe can you give me an example of said post?
BohoBabe · M
@pianoplayingsteve Not saying you made posts like that, but people do that, and then try to fall back on "it's just a joke" when getting roasted.
Although your post about borders was pretty cringe.

@BohoBabe i dont see how it was cringe. Either lines on a map mean something or they dont. And yes im aware he crossed state lines, the point being why should it matter if he did, if they are just imaginary lines?
BohoBabe · M
@pianoplayingsteve When people bring up that he crossed state lines, the point is that he travelled, which means the "self-defense" argument was bullshit. You can't go to where people are rioting, then claim you were just defending yourself from rioters.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@BohoBabe my meme mentioned nothing to do with whether or not he was defending myself. My meme was on how peple suddenly decided 'imaginary lines' werent so imaginary.
BohoBabe · M
@pianoplayingsteve But that betrays a lack of understanding about borders.
When people say borders are just imaginary lines, they mean that we shouldn't have a super strict immigration policy. Of course the border between Wisconsin and Illinois is also made up, but nobody was saying Rittenhouse shouldn't be allowed to travel to Illinois. The state line was only brought up to draw attention to distance, not political borders.

@BohoBabe then why not just mention the distance, twenty five minutes, as opposed to 'state lines'? Perhaps because 'crossing state lines' gives the impression of a vast journey, as opposed to twenty five mins? Im not contesting what you say by the way, just as with my meme, im concerned with how people word things to have things appear a certain way
BohoBabe · M
@pianoplayingsteve It's probably just easier to say "state lines." TBH, saying "twenty-five miles" makes it sound longer to me.
Also, just because borders are made-up, doesn't mean the law shouldn't apply to them. Adulthood is also made-up. We just decided 18 is when someone is an adult. But the law is still based on this arbitrary age.

@BohoBabe i said 'twenty five mins' sorry should have said minutes lol. And thats twenty five mins as a gentle stroll, not even as a bike ride.
Oh dont even get me started on the whole concept of 18 and adulthood. 'you are 17 and 364 days old you know nothing' *1 hour passes* okay you are 18 now, an adult , you now have the same knowledge as and are responsible as a 50 year old. In fact date that 50 year old if you like thats normal'

BohoBabe · M
@pianoplayingsteve Yeah, it's completely arbitrary and inconsistent. But the thing is, we do need a marker for when we start considering someone to be an adult.
It's kinda like that with crossing state lines too. Human trafficking laws take state lines into consideration.

@BohoBabe well i dont want to appear as if im pushing for something im not if you catch my drift but it has an insane number of issues. As you say clear things are needed to structure society, so go ahead it works, but as constantine (1981) put it, it would be a 'serious conflation of moral and legal constructs with a scientific construct.'
