The Castells, from 1961. I've posted this before, about six years ago, but it had less of a 'guilty pleasure' component in those days, for some reason. I think the sentimentality and living-through-your-emotions aspect of this song is magnificently corny.

I’ve outgrown shame when it comes to my questionable tastes. However, this probably fits as well as anything. I have an undying love of B-movies and include songs from these movies on my playlists. When this song starts, I can’t help but crank it up.

Here’s the trailer for the glorious train wreck of a movie it comes from.

guilty pleasure songs would include a handful of nu metal, emo, post-grunge, 90s pop punk or 80s glam metal, industrial metal stuff ... so a few random songs here and there by bands like Chevelle, Deftones, Powerman 5000, Static X, Korn, SOAD, Godsmack, Drain STH, Staind, Type O Negative, Coal Chamber, Orgy, Jimmy Eat World, Oleander, Green Day, Blink 182, early Ratt, early Def Leppard (before the drummer lost an arm), Fear Factory (though I can't really stand the stupid, cartoonish, adolescent death growl nonsense, it ruins an otherwise musically interesting track)

I'll pull one random example from all of that:

incidentally, this would be my fave GLJ track:

@BlueGreenGrey been with JEW from their very first record. Clarity is a masterpiece. Even their newer stuff is good. But I probably listen to this song the most. [media=https://youtu.be/ROatPGGMvXg]
@BlueGreenGrey and that GLJ one is a deep cut. My favorites are probably Gorgeous and Bruises.
@DrawntoaDistance if I've heard those other two GLJ songs before I don't remember them, but they are also good

I had forgotten the JEW track «Sweetness» but that was definitely the other one that I liked

1984 or 5150? It matters bro
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@DrawntoaDistance too much synthesizer w Sammy in the band
@AthrillatheHunt I don't mind the synth on 1984 at all, it isn't just synth that is the issue, when Sammy replaced Dave the overall sound of the band seemed to just more broadly change, in a negative way, so that just removing the synth wouldn't have fixed anything. And I just don't like Sammy's voice or vibe in general, I mean for example «I Can't Drive 55» was a boring AF song.

@DrawntoaDistance «Poundcake» and «Dreams» are the only two Van Hagar songs I could tolerate to a limited to degree, but in particular with «Poundcake» the brief use of the drill on the guitar is really the only interesting aspect of the song (kind of like the use of a toy ray gun used by Steve Stephens on the Billy Idol track «Rebel Yell»). But Van Halen songs (with Dave), were good through and through, beyond any brief guitar gimmick, even synth songs like «Jump» and «I'll Wait». Dave is just a better singer as well.

@BlueGreenGrey Dave will always be my second fave front man of all time , behind Robert plant .
