Calling it the greatest rock song ever written is strictly a matter of your opinion.
While it is a great song, it’s hard to call it the greatest without considering the work of groups like the Grateful Dead, the Doors, and the Rolling Stones.

@RedBaron I very clearly in plain language was not stating my opinion there. Pretty obviously.

@bluegrasslover He misread my comment. Wierd to try to encourage a criticism based on someone's misreading of a comment. And so the hell what if that was my opinion? Lmao Why would anyone here have a problem with that? It's a song. Relax. Yeah, I do think it might be one of the greatest rock songs ever written. It's an amazing song, which is a pretty popular opinion by people who love rock music. Why can't people here just be chill about music? Music should bring people together in a positive way.

@RedBaron An actual controversial opinion would be that The Eagles were the greatest band in modern history. When considering that specific group you mentioned, it isn't in my opinion. I'm not going to analyze it because it speaks for itself really, the guitar solos and lyrics themselves are masterworks. You're also attempting to compare this song with songs from the Grateful Dead. Doesn't really work. The Doors? I wouldn't consider any of their songs to be in that conversation and I don't think most would either. Hotel California is usually in that conversation amongst professional music critics.

@kittee it isn't mine, if I had to choose, might be Rocket Man, but I love a lot of Elton John's work. Big fan of his. Wish I could've seen him in concert.
