Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, "Shop Around" (1960)

This was the original, iconic song

but what many don’t know is that it prompted an "answer" song in 1961 by an obscure Motown artist named Debbie Dean
("Don’t Let Him Shop Around")

She may have other songs, but I admit I’m not familiar with them. 😐

The original song was a big hit, of course, and made it to #1 on the US R&B chart and #2 on the US pop chart.

Dean's response song only made it to #92 on the US pop chart. Hard to understand why it didn't do better.

These are both new to me. I love it!

I'm trying to imagine Smokie and company coming up with another song in rebuttal to the rebuttal!
@DrWatson You Better shop Around is new to you? Where have you BEEN?
@DrWatson They could title it "The Lemon Law"
