“When Will I See You Again” – The Three Degrees

[media=https://youtu.be/Vz5gNJvwnMI]
Hit song recorded by the American Soul group, The Three Degrees.

Released in 1974, “When Will I See You Again” reached #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, #4 on the R&B chart, and #1 on the Easy Listening Chart. Billboard included the song on their list of the 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.

The songwriting team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff wrote and produced “When Will I See You Again”. Interestingly, Three Degrees lead singer Shelia Ferguson had an intensely hostile reaction to the song when she first heard it.

As Ferguson later recalled:

“The song was played to me by Kenny Gamble at the piano in 1973 and I threw a tantrum. I screamed and yelled and said I would never sing it. I thought it was ridiculously insulting to be given such a simple song and that it took no talent to sing it. We did do it and several million copies later, I realized that he knew more than me."

Great song!!! Wooooooo.
When I first heard it, I thought it was Diana Ross and the Supremes, but I now know the error of my ways.
Thanks for that little nugget of trivia! That very interesting.

@TrashCat Understandable mistake. They do sound a lot like Diana Ross and the Supremes.

You're welcome. Glad you found it interesting.

@Rutterman I did. Thank YOU! I have been delving heavily into music from the 50s through to the 80s lately. Not just from the US but also French and Italian from those time periods, especially.
