I love this! As soon as those horns kicked in, I just knew. I’ve never heard this song before and never heard of them before. They’re on my radar for when I go record shopping now, although I’m sure it’s going to be hard to track down a copy in the wild.
The sax player was just starting to cut loose when it ended, and I wasn’t ready for it to end yet. I went on YouTube and found the album cut, which is 8 minutes. The full sax solo is awesome. I also love how they take it down to just bass and percussion and let the bass player fly before taking it down to just percussion.

@BamPow Fatback was the band when I was in college. I attended an HBCU, a women’s college, and the campus of our brother college was in walking distance. I remember when we were in line to register and get our dorm assignments, a small contingent of the guys were assembled nearby, I guess assessing the "fresh meat". One of them had a boombox playing:
