I listen to the song happier by Bastille and marshmello constantly

It tells of a relationship that has run its course and the singer wants to make his partner happier even if it is without him. He feels conflicted as part of him doesn’t want to end the relationship and see his lover with someone else either. It talks about an unconditional love and self sacrifice for the other person so they can be happier. I love this song and it makes me cry as I can relate to it so much as when I let go of my ex boyfriend for the sake of his future happiness and he let me go for me to find someone in real life to love. I wanted to get back together with him a few days to weeks after I broke up with him in major emotional turmoil but he told as much as he wanted to get back together with me he thought about it and decided it was not good for my future. He let me go. He loved me a lot but thought he could not give me everything I needed being so long distance and online. He also thought we weren’t going to become a real life couple anytime soon so he let me go to find someone closer to where I lived and he said I could find someone as I was young, smart, and beautiful. Eventually after being friends for eight months he decided it was not a good idea as he starting dating another lady and got engaged within two to three months and he didn’t want her to be upset and suspicious of our friendship even though we were done as a couple. He let me go at first for my future, but then he ended the friendship for his future. He wanted me to be happy and find someone I could love in real life. He eventually left completely wishing me to take care of myself and to live a good life. Yeah happier is a really relatable song to how our relationship was starting to drift apart ( my fault actually) and he wanted me to give me a chance at real life love. So he went.
