Fair Warning, best they ever did as a band.

@uncalled4 Great Album!
I am a "Fair Warning," "Women & Children First," lover.

@Iwillwait Something about FW hits just like I and II, even better in some ways. Hard to believe it was FW to Diver Down to 1984.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
A big part of the change in sound on FW is Alex switching to a Tama Rosewood snare. You can really hear the difference. This pic is a reissue, but I believe it's physically pretty close. He used it a lot on subsequent albums.

Iwillwait · M
@uncalled4 That's cool. I never knew this!
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Iwillwait I geek out on this stuff.
Iwillwait · M
@uncalled4 I was more in lines with Eddie and his tinkering with Eventide Harmonizer 2000 and Amp wiring, reverse polarities and the genius move of using a Variac to be able to have his Marshalls full throttle an be able to volume down to any decible while pushing the tubes to their max output.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Iwillwait Is that how he got some of those chorusy effects? The Harmonizer?
Iwillwait · M
@uncalled4 Yeah, I believe an MXR Flanger & Phaser too which can be rolled back to be an analog chorus-like, but the Eventide was the true Chorus/Reverb suites for his sound.

A little mad scientist with a dash solitude and ab insatiable thirst for The Perfect Tone carved the path we all got to journey on along with him.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Iwillwait Yes, the whole "tone chaser" thing. That said, I never dug the sound he had during the Hagar years as much as what came before and after
Iwillwait · M
@uncalled4 I believe Licensing and Endorsement deals infiltrated the process. 5150 Amp/head is never going to sound like a Plexi-Lead Marshall Stack or JCM.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Iwillwait 5150 was Peavey, correct?
Iwillwait · M
@uncalled4 I think initially yes, then Eddie came out with newer EVH line not sure who assembled them.
