I Love Rock Music

IMO John Entwhistle was probably the most influential bass guitar player WHO ever lived thus far...

I haven't heard his solo stuff but yeah, he's a dude...and what a great instrument...I just ended up thinking about that kid, (well..youngish man) who played fretless on Paul Simon's Graceland, can't remember his name but I remember reading somewhere that his intonation was absolutely bang on the button...every note, every time. Not easy.

@Orpheus Not sure if it's not too extreme for you, but I think you give "Liquid Tension Experiment" a try, a band consisting of Tony Levin, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, and Mike Portnoy (those three are from Dream Theatre).

@helenS Extreme?!!! Well, I do like my music a bit more George Formby down at Blackpool Beach but I'll give it a go...

@Orpheus It's instrumental rock. Pretentious, self-important, arrogant, overblown, virtuosity for the sake of virtuosity, in a word: excellent! 😏

@helenS Ha! Yeah I could do with some of that if I fancy a laugh!

Sounds like Soft Machine post-Kevin Ayers 😂

@ArtieKat Soft Machine is a perfect example! 👍🏾

@helenS I doubt you'll approve but this is my favourite Soft Machine track, Helen - with Kevin Ayers vocals lol

@ArtieKat Hey, he "sings" almost as nicely as Captain Kirk, ermm I meant William Shatner! 😏
It's a fun song. Seriously, I love Canterbury music, my favorite album is "In the Land of Grey and Pink" by Caravan, and, for reasons yet to be determined, I'm a big fan of their song "Golf Girl" (first song on that album).

@helenS I first saw Caravan on a late-night TV show called Colour Me Pop in the late 60s when colour TV was first introduced in the UK.
Still love this track!

@ArtieKat Thank you – listening to it right now.
PS I had to move to London (= setting my VPN client to "London") to be able to listen to the song.
ArtieKat · M
@helenS That's way too technical for a simple soul like me 😊
helenS · 36-40, F
@ArtieKat Essentially, the VPN generates a fake IP address for me, so I appear to be in London, or Berlin, or Denver. If a video is licensed only for the UK – fine, I'm there!
Highly recommended.
ArtieKat · M
@helenS I guessed really :-)
