@AbsolutelyFabulous I was 14 and my gran died the year before. My parents and I went to Lourdes the year after. At Charentes they bought a bottle of cognac. They didn't drink. I kept it and drank it in memory of my gran. The song has a lot of meaning for me

@val70

The cognac reminded me of this song:

@Thinkerbell That's three friends are sitting together over wine. One by one, two of them pass away. The last survivor drinks a final toast to his departed brothers—his sworn "Schmollis" companions—hears the glasses clink, calls out "Fiducit, merry brother!", and never drinks another drop.

I like the original, but she still does the song justice in the newer one.

It has more perk. It's more polished after being done for so many years.

@Gibbon You're right, of course, but the old one has so many memories for me

@val70 I read your other replies. I can understand why. 🫂

Maggie's voice is beautiful and she's a better singer in the new version, but the production and sound of the older speaks to me more...it's so subtle....I have the original on vinyl and have probably listened to this song 1000 time and thought about it a million...

@fun4us2b Yes, me too. It's one that stays with me. Perhaps at the end I'll fully understand
