I was watching a documentary on the making of Michael Jackson’s album "Thriller"

(On Paramount+)
How it was put together, how the music was used to integrate MTV (who initially wouldn’t air videos by black artists) and make them even richer. How the videos were made, including his work with Paul McCartney, John Landis and also how Michael’s singing style and dance moves in those videos and subsequent ones were used by groups all over the world. How it became the most popular album of all time. At one point a young rapper said, enthusiastically, "’Thriller’ was my grandmother’s favorite album !"

That's quite an accusation 😐
@helenS Watch the documentary. David Bowie even called them out on it. And their initial position was that they were geared primarily toward white rock audiences, so the only black artists shown were part of white rock bands. MTV eventually re-thought that stance. Michael Jackson’s music was largely part of that transition.

@bijouxbroussard Thank you and I will check it out. We are talking about the 1980s here aren't we?! This isn't about 1920... It's a shame, a disgrace 😕
@helenS If you think racism doesn’t still exist here and there because of modern times, you’re seriously out of the loop.

@bijouxbroussard Always difficult to see and understand racism for a person who lives in a white-only society... 😐
@helenS I imagine so. If you haven’t been its target, it may seem invisible.

@helenS Epic Records threatened to pull all of their videos if they didn't start airing MJs videos. This was reported at the time.
