One thing non-cinema related that I looked into a bit more was Norwegian Black Metal

There was church burnings and murder in the headlines, but also the music itself, which is just as much image as sound.

It's all just noise, but some tracks can be quite catchy.

The big story however was this racist Varg fella killing the headman of a group called Mayhem. Mayhem is in the 2nd wave of Black Metal as a broad movement, and there's earlier bands that were proto types like Venom and Bathory. Well this Varg guy mentioned above was churning his stuff under the name Burzum. I didn't sample that out but some, I like better the videos about this material, overall the music isn't to my liking, but there's a dark fascination with it nevertheless.

Plus there's a section on it in a Eugene Thacker book, Eugene is a modern day EM Cioran, but I vastly prefer Cioran over him, he lacks orginality for one thing, just rehashing thoughts already expressed better. But this is a topic of study for the cosmic pessimist.

Now I don't think of myself as a pessimist of any kind, it's just that it rings a bit more true at times.

Do I want to be coddled by something unrealistic, or eased into the uncomfortable realities? The latter are when the rubber hits the road!! You go places there, all in the mind.

Black metal is so malleable that it can be used in so many different styles and blends with so many different sounds. It’s always been a vibe and aesthetic that promotes individuality and self expression
