What philosophy do these song lyrics best describe?

What if there’s nothing more to us, we’re just carbon based. We’re just pixie dust.

What if life’s just a magic trick, some quick sleight of hand, meaningless to think…

What if consciousness can’t expand, and we fool ourselves with absurd demands..

What if there is no point at all….we just grow up to fade away…..

@XenonRush a philosophy that doesn't believe reality has a purpose.

Especially no deity of any type. You can say a form of atheism would come close.

So, this is an actual thing? Are there any people who are famously nihilists?@DeWayfarer

@XenonRush well I wouldn't call it a major movement. Yet the concept of nihilism has been around for over a hundred years with Ivan Turgen in 1855.

It is sort of required philosophy reading in universities. Read some of it myself in college.

Had a Mormon as a philosophy teacher. 😆

the lyrics are not ignorant but ignore something that we are all aware of. "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." the best video that i have seen to explain this is by Dr. Max Tegmark. about emergent phenomena. i will make a separate post.

@pdxlinux their argument would be: "what if the whole isn't greater than it's parts"?

The whole point of nihilism is to question everything. BTW that is the philosophy that fits to a tee!

It's the only thing that I agree with in nihilism. Question everything. It's their conclusions that I have problems with.

As a true questioner could only put it: "What if nihilism is a deceit?" 🤷🏻‍♂️😊

Someone depressed

True. I was just wondering if there was a type of actual philosophy that exhibits these beliefs.

I am a nihilist, I have been since my childhood. Yet I am a nihilist looking over the fence, hoping it would prove me wrong.
