Please disregard the given release date as January 21, 1973. I know it was early 1973, but I don't believe it was January 21st. I never have been and never will be convinced that records were released on Sundays, so I would venture to guess it was actually released on Monday, January 22nd, 1973. @AliceinWonderland: I haven't heard Luther Vandross singing that particular song, but I have heard him singing other songs and he is quite good. I remember hearing Roberta Flack's version on the radio when I was 11. Apparently it was singing about Don McLean, inspired by one of that guy's big hits. This one, by all accounts:
