SRV Appreciation Thread

32 years ago today the music died. After closing out a concert by jamming with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and his brother Jimmie Vaughan, Stevie Ray Vaughan died when the helicopter he was traveling to Chicago in crashed into a ski hill in Wisconsin. Jimmie and his wife Connie were set to be on the same chopper until at the last minute they were told there was only one seat. Jimmie and Connie decided to ride the bus and asked Stevie to join them. According to Jimmie when asked Stevie replied, “I gotta get back to Texas”. He eventually did but sadly not on the Southwest Airlines flight he had booked.

When Jimmie and Connie got to Chicago they were told choppers 1, 2 and 4 had made it but #3 was unaccounted for. When the sun rose in Wisconsin that morning the wreckage was found and Jimmie identified his brother’s body.

First time I saw SRV I was a 13 year old kid who had no business being in a night club, but my uncle took me anyway and I was mesmerized from the second I saw him. I saw him his last performance in Houston with Joe Cocker which was a little over 2 months prior to his death. And 20+ times in between. RIP SRV

Gosh the way he stopped and smirked at the camera. Panty dropper.

I’ve always loved him. Sadly, never saw him live.

@BexEyes it was always amazing to watch him and the magic his fingers could make 🎸

I saw the concert with Joe Cocker opening at Jones Beach, Long Island shortly before the helicopter crash.
I remember him dedicating Riviera Paradise to "anyone out there who's ever been hurt". A great show.
We had an event the night after the crash, and my mother told a family friend that my flag was at half mast
The music didn't die....but we missed out on a lot of great music that will never be written.
RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I saw him a year or so before he died. Fantastic performance in a small auditorium. He was sober and on top of his game. Losing him was so unfair after all he had gone through

@JohnnyNoir after he battled the demons and addiction that haunted him for years and won, he was on his way to even better things than he’d already mastered. So unfair.

@SW-User my personal favorite guitarist of all time. The best ever in my opinion.

Love the music

You may be cool, but you’ll never be SRV cool, breaking your G string in a solo, changing guitars after the solo and never missing a beat 🎸

Saw him open for Robert Plant in 88. Great show.

@uncalled4 saw SRV in ‘88 with Jeff Beck. They were co headlining. Stevie didn’t care where he was on the bill. I bet that was an amazing show!
