@Sharon Not bad, and certainly better than the Pogues' version. But I have to admit that I prefer the original.

@Bushranger Thanks for that. I still prefer The Dubliner's version though. In my opinion, the late Ronnie Drew singing better fits the part of the old man thinking back to the horrors of war.

@Sharon I think it has a lot to do with which version you hear first, I suppose. But the song transcends artists, in my opinion. You should look up a few more of Eric's stuff, some very funny songs and a few very serious, social commentary ones.
