1. So far i've heard that it was a name given to a pub that stood on two different street corners, so the shape of it was considered an 'iron'.
2. A Locomotive turntable just outside the Aintree shunting yard.
3. Part of the Melling road which crosses the Aintree racecourse which, when viewed from above is shaped like a hammer.
4. A reference to the Liverpool Striker Tommy Smith.
5. The guide rails at the Aintree racecourse. Which were allegedly taken down and melted down for the war effort during the second world war.
6. A local Stout that was brewed in Liverpool. Stout known for having a strong iron content that was recommended for pregnant mums to be at the time.
