actual Korean music that's not all westernized

I fell in love with traditional Korean music. It's very expressive and their instruments sound eerie/nostalgic. ❤

These might be influenced by Western music too but they've been the best I found, according to my taste. Both featured in Kim Ki Duk's movies.

@CrazyMusicLover it's incredibly hard to get away from that Western influence, it seems to have infected almost everything in the world. I guess it's partially the practical necessity of having to mesh with Western instruments and partially how music is taught, and it's what most people's ears are expecting these days.

@SW-User I admit that it is sometimes hard to accept completely foreign types of music. There seems to be not much left of it but I think a few examples of traditional songs are still able to show their uniqueness.
Personally, I prefer songs adjusted to my Western ears. It's probably settled deep. And that includes our Western folk too, I like them little bit organized but not too polished.

What I hate is this "modernization" of traditional music that tries to make it more attractive by adding electronic sounds or disco rhythms with no sensitivity at all.
Like this: 😑

Or overly aestheticized, pathetic, sentimental Chinese music: 🙄

I always try to find something balanced, something that at least appear to be authentic but all I can usually find is only raw folk song or fake polished goo.

Or...I was searching for Vietnamese and Thai metal today xD Every single band used the same Western ways of playing, just singing in different language.

@CrazyMusicLover I guess I'm kind of a weirdo because I actually don't really like how Western tonal music is constructed, around chords with heavy use of harmony. 12-tone equal temperament I also find sounds awkward and somewhat ugly. So I'm always casting around for things that are different, whether it's Georgian choirs or Carnatic music or atonal minimal techno or Indonesian gamelans or Japanese or whatever, just anything to get away from 12-TET chord progressions.

lol yeah that's what you usually get when you search for "traditional XXX music"

@YukikoAmagi That would have been too funny. 🤣

@Elegy apparently the trick is to point out how similar his posting style and use of language are to someone who's been kicked off repeatedly for being a fake, who would have thought?..

What's the name of this song and what is this song talking about? The music sounds errie/spooky :(
SW-User
@awingandaprayer Suje Cheon, I think. I don't know what it's about. To me it feels unhappy but I love its aesthetic and tone and strategic use of dissonance.
