I Am Listening To This Song Right Now

Empty Arms- Ivory Joe Hunter

Wish this was my 78. I have a lot of them. But this one is not. But how great is still sounds! But Ivory Joe was special. His piano playing was instantly recognizable! And still is to those of us old enough to remember. This one can still bring a tear now and again.

Love the older music. 馃幖馃槏
Me too. It was a simpler time. And a more honest time I think, at times. And the music of those days reflected that. Music, as a whole is always a social statement, a microcosm, of the times and days it was recorded in.

This sweet song, done at such a great time in recorded music, shows how popular soul and R&B singers of the day were reaching out to record songs that were labeled Country and Western. And most succeeded brilliant in these endeavours. Just as Nat "King " Cole did, years later, with "Rambling Rose"

This is what I listen to in my downtime. Older music.

@Elandra77: I listen to a lot to the same thing, love Nat King Cole. I like the older rock and roll, and country.
@sweetpea: Yes. I love old Rock and roll. But- I also enjoy the Doo Wop of those days. Especially Dion and The Belmonts. As well as the Modern Jazz movement.

Nat is in a class by himself. I think he is one of the 100 most identifiable VOICES of last century- meaning 1900-1999. Most , know EXACTLY who the voice is when they hearit. be it a wedding ("Unforgettable") or another event. I have So many records and CD's of Nat's.

I also love French music. Namely the music made in the 1960's. But that made in 1930-60 is nice. I love to turn my house in to an outdoor French Cafe by just the old music.

@Elandra77: The French music sounds lovely. 馃挒馃幖
@sweetpea: It is. it is my dream to move to Paris-not as a tourist, But as one wh goes ther, To the City of love-and lights-and find who truly loves me, as I do her, and to live- the end of my days in that great city. it is just a dream- but one I love to entertain. And far removed form any reality I may have.

I am currently listening to Nana Mouskouri- a Greek born woman who first became famous in her native land. She was born in 1939. BUT-- she was well versed in French, German and English- and English may have been the biggest struggle for her.

But, oh my! How she can touch the soul! Not as Francoise hardy can. But-in a different way.

In German--but does one really even to KNOW what it says? As is, and she , are just beautiful.

@Elandra77: Oh wow, Bette Midler's "The Rose!" Very beautiful. 馃挀馃拹
@sweetpea:Yes, I think she does it better and with more feeling. Of course, she had been singing a lot longer than Bette.
PeachesF
@Elandra77: I never knew that. Funny how people are exposed to different music.
