Jean-Luc Ponty, "Final Truth, Pt. 1" (1981)

One of my favorites of his, from his "Mystical Adventures" album. I’ve come to love jazz violin, but my ear always goes to the piano solo.
@Harmonium1923, are you familiar with Chris Rhyne (1:27) ?

this kind of stuff is amazing to see live, but I could never get into it listening to a recording. I need rich chord progressions.

I had a friend who was big into mahavishnu orchestra. I had the same feeling about them. It's more about the technical prowess of the musicians than the compositions.

I need something more like this

@bijouxbroussard no, I played the drums in the past. And self taught guitar.

@bijouxbroussard I posted one of my guitar pieces here:

@SW-User Yeah, Chick Corea was amazing, too. We don’t all have to like the same thing.

Very nice and no, I didn’t know this before.

I’ve got to start posting some favorites in this jazz group. I’ll tag you, too!
@Harmonium1923 I never quite acquired the knack of jazz piano, alas. My mother was originally classically trained, but in New Orleans one of her teachers was a local jazz pianist. When she was at Columbia later, she had a weekend job at a jazz club as the group’s pianist.
Anytime I hear good jazz piano I’m mesmerized. 🫠
